The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a system for managing strategy. At first, its application was restricted to a system for measuring business performance or, more simply, a set of performance indicators. However, its use revealed a potential which its creators had not anticipated; it turned out to be an effective management system which facilitates strategic alignment and strategy execution monitoring, while remaining as a central reference in the organizations.

The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) allows translating the organization’s future vision into correlated strategic objectives, broken down into perspectives (Strategy Map): economic-financial, market, internal processes and learning and growth. The last perspective deals with managing intangible assets: the development of internal competences, organization climate and the company technology readiness.

By linking indicators and long-term targets to the objectives, it is possible to ensure the alignment with the organization strategy, and the prioritization of initiatives (projects or action plans) composing, then, the Balanced Scorecard.
